What Is Osteoarthritis?
Our board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons at Preston Surgery Center offer services to manage osteoarthritis (OA). As a degenerative disease of the joints, OA is a condition that will present in the later stages with unbearable pain that is difficult to live with on a daily basis. You have a higher likelihood of developing OA if you are overweight or lost a significant amount of weight in the past. You may find that when you have an OA episode when the symptoms are at their worst, you may be feeling less flexible, stiff, numb, and/or relentless pain. We may recommend the following nonsurgical ways you can lessen the pain of OA:
- Getting consistent physical therapy and daily exercise
- Eating a healthy diet and staying away from inflammatory foods
- Making sure you are never nutrient deficient
- Losing weight to lift the pressure that the extra pounds are putting on your body
- Using heat and cold packs on sore areas throughout your day
- Taking nonsteroidal and anti-inflammatory drugs for swelling and pain
- Enduring corticosteroid injections at our office
Sometimes, our experienced surgeons recommend minimally invasive surgeries for OA but only as a last resort to stop the pain. Our treatment protocols can only temporarily relieve the symptoms of OA, not cure it. If you would like to inquire about services at Preston Surgery Center, please spend a few moments to reach out to our office in Frisco, TX.
