What are trigger point injections?
Trigger point injections (TPI) for painful muscles (that feels like tight knots under the skin) are available at Preston Surgery Center in Frisco, TX. The primary goal of trigger point injections is to decrease the pain in specific trigger points in your legs, arms, back, or neck. It is our hope that these injections will increase your ability to move better, relax muscles that feel tight, and stop spasms in these areas. After a thorough consultation of your painful trigger points, one of our board-certified and fellowship-trained pain management specialists, Dr. Mohammad Tariq, Dr. David Keelen, and Dr. Gabor Racz, will make a recommendation if injections are right for you. The injections do not take long and can be completed in our office at Preston Surgery Center. Trigger point injections are directly treated. By inserting a needle into the trigger point, one of our physicians will inject a combination of anesthesia, saline, and corticosteroids to deactivate (relax) the contracted muscle. We can also offer you other approaches to ease myofascial pain, such as:
- Relaxation techniques
- Pain medication
- Hot and cold therapy
- Physical therapy
- Trigger point pressure release
- Trigger point massage
- Minimally invasive surgery (when needed)
The pain around your muscles at your trigger points can be swollen, very sensitive to the touch, and feel stiff. Many patients have referred pain because of the irritation these muscles cause to the nerves. You can have a private consultation with Drs. Tariq, Keelen, or Racz to discuss your treatment options and reduce your pain with one of several interventions.
