What is ankle arthroscopy?
Ankle arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that can be performed to diagnose and treat a painful ankle at Preston Surgery Center. With our experienced orthopedic surgeons who are board-certified and fellowship-trained to use an arthroscope, your ankle can be assessed for multiple concerns. The arthroscope is a miniature scope (camera) that is inserted into small incisions made in your ankle skin for your surgeon to find the problematic issues you feel. You may benefit from an ankle arthroscopy if you have damaged cartilage from an injury, bone fragments or bone spurs, old scar tissue, and other debris that can be removed. Once the source of the problem is identified, your surgeon may repair, transfer, or incite new cartilage growth within your ankle joint. This procedure can provide relief from swelling, pain, and immobility of the ankle. With rest and physical therapy, you should be able to have a successful recovery over time.
If your surgeon finds something wrong with your ankle that cannot be repaired arthroscopically, a new treatment plan will need to be made. We can discuss your options and have a game plan in place during your treatment planning appointment before surgery. We can offer you more information about our orthopedic treatments at Preston Surgery Center when you come in for a consultation.
