Bicep Tenodesis Arthroscopy FAQ
What is the best surgery for a bicep tear?
The right type of surgery for a bicep tear depends on what kind of tear you have. There are two types of tears, a partial tear, and a complete tear. These tears can be caused by an injury or overuse, as in lifting heavy objects repeatedly, which happens often in weightlifting. For a partial tear, rehabilitation is often the best treatment, or a minor surgical procedure called a tenotomy, which completes a partial tear to release the tendon. For a complete tear, tenodesis arthroscopy is often the best solution. This procedure removes the damaged part of the tendon and then reattaches it to the shoulder by anchoring it to the bone. At Preston Surgery Center, your doctor will evaluate your bicep tear and determine which treatment is best to alleviate your pain and help you regain the proper functioning of your bicep.
How long does it take to recover from a bicep tenodesis arthroscopy?
After your doctor at Preston Surgery Center reattaches the tendon by sewing it into the bone with small anchors, you can expect your recovery time to be at least six weeks. This is the time the tendon needs to heal to the bone.
What can you not do after bicep tenodesis arthroscopy?
While you are still recovering, you need to avoid twisting movements of your wrist and forearm with resistance. This includes:
- Using doorknobs (twisting)
- Opening a jar
- Using a screwdriver, wrench, or other similar tools
- Wringing out a towel or clothing
- Or any similar twisting movement
