Laminectomy in Frisco, TX
What is a laminectomy?
A laminectomy is a surgical procedure we offer at Preston Surgery Center with our board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Mark Valente. This is a specialized decompression surgery for patients who live with built-up pressure on their spinal cord and/or nerves. It is commonly performed for patients with spinal stenosis. When oral medication and less invasive approaches seem to not work as well or fail to relieve pain for spinal stenosis, a laminectomy may be recommended.
As one of the most trusted spinal surgeons in the nation, Dr. Valente carries out laminectomies by eliminating the lamina (also known as the vertebra that shields your spinal canal). This surgery opens up the spinal canal to decompress the spinal cord and nerves causing so much pain and other health issues, like incontinence, problematic walking, numbness in the upper and lower limbs, lack of muscle strength, and more. A laminectomy can also be necessary for the treatment of herniated spinal disks, the overgrowth of bone spurs on the spine, and more as deemed necessary by your surgeon.
