Shoulder, Rotator Cuff, Labral, and SLAP Tear Repair (Arthroscopic and Open) in Frisco, TX
What is a shoulder repair?
Preston Surgery Center in Frisco, TX offers many options in shoulder repair surgery, including open and arthroscopic techniques. Our board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mark Valente, can diagnose and treat shoulder injuries, including labral and superior labral tears from anterior to posterior (SLAP tears). Our facility is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), and we can conveniently provide you with surgical procedures on-site. Our orthopedic surgeon can perform two types of shoulder surgeries: open and arthroscopic.
Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery
In the diagnostic phase with the arthroscope, your orthopedic surgeon can go inside your shoulder with a camera as a minimally invasive procedure. Because of the small incisions made, less recovery time, and smaller scars, most people prefer the arthroscopic approach. If the injury to the shoulder cannot be mended arthroscopically, we may suggest having traditional open shoulder surgery.
Open Shoulder Surgery
Traditional open shoulder surgery does require a bigger incision that will take longer to heal. Sometimes, an arthroscopic technique cannot be performed when the damage to the shoulder is severe or there is not sufficient access to the areas that need surgery (for example, a complex rotator cuff tear or a significant fracture). A section of tissue and muscle may need to be cut through to get to the treatment area as well. Overall, open shoulder surgery is more aggressive but may be necessary for the appropriate treatment.
We have state-of-the-art imaging technologies available for your shoulder imaging, such as an MRI, x-ray, or CT scan, if needed. Most of our shoulder repair patients come to us through referral and need a specialist to take a closer look when an x-ray is not enough to really see the damage at hand. You are welcome to contact our office online or by phone to schedule an appointment at Preston Surgery Center.
